Northampton, Massachusetts Vision Specialists Doctors work with patients who have suffered sports-related concussions, and offer vision rehabilitation emphasizing maximum recovery and the prevention of future injuries.
Theresa J Ruggiero OD, FCOVD
Dr. Ruggiero is the founder of Northampton Vision Specialists. She completed her training at the State University of New York College of
Optometry in 1987 and has been in private practice ever since, providing comprehensive vision care for all ages. Practice at the Northampton
Vision Specialists is based on the neurodevelopmental model of vision, which is founded on the belief that vision is a complex brain process
that goes way beyond “eyesight.” Seventy percent of every person’s sensory input is visual. Vision is an input-output system: we take in
information about our environment then use it to plan all of our actions and interactions. Treatment, therefore, should not be limited to attaining
20/20 visual acuity. It should address all of the ways in which vision impacts our lives.
Elizabeth B. Hannigan OD, FCOVD
Dr. Elizabeth Hannigan grew up in rural upstate New York skiing and playing league soccer. She was on the varsity soccer, basketball and
softball teams in high school. Dr. Hannigan attended the New England College of Optometry in Boston. She has been a doctor of optometry at
Northampton Vision Specialists since completion of her training in 2011, and enjoys the hiking, biking, and kayaking that the area has to offer.
Dr. Hannigan is a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development and a member of the International Sports Vision Association. In
2016 Dr. Hannigan had the pleasure of working with two players from the Springfield Falcons Hockey team for concussion rehabilitation, getting
them back on the ice and playing even better than they did pre-concussion. Dr. Hannigan enjoys working with a variety of patients of all ages to
enhance and rehabilitate their visual system and their lives.
Naomi G. Clay OD
Dr. Naomi Clay earned her doctorate at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in 2016. Upon graduation, she completed a
one-year residency at Merrimack Vision Care in Manchester, N.H., where she worked in primary care, pediatrics, vision therapy, and
neuro-rehabilitation. Dr. Clay has participated in sports vision evaluations, including the MLB East Coast Pro Showcase for high school athletics
in Tampa, FL. Dr. Clay has a strong passion for helping people of all ages to optimize their visual system in order to comfortably achieve their
goals whether it be for athletics, academics, or activities of daily living.
